Art History II | Spring 2018 and Spring 2019 | Kirkwood Community College, Iowa City, IA
In this class, we will chronologically survey the historical, religious, and socio-cultural contexts of art making around the world from today back through the beginnings of the Renaissance. By the end of the term, you will likely comprehend the general theories and concepts of art history. Additionally, should you successfully complete this course, you will earn your metaphorical stripes in the careful analysis of art and visual media. You will learn to critically engage with new ideas and cultures different from your own. Finally and most crucially, you will create for yourself an understanding of the basic trajectory of history and how commonly accepted trajectories of history come into being. We will accomplish all this through readings, visual presentations, field trips (all within Iowa City) and lecture and discussion.
